Well, I found another one. I've been asked to do digital marketing for the Keels and Wheels Concours in Seabrook, TX. After I loaded my video and was checking my tags, guess what I found?? This one is great!

Looks like the Nethercutt Collection's car (J-533) with different headlights. _________________ Chris Summers

Youtube's Duesy clip is great. I recognize Constance Bennett, what a beauty! You don't see many 37 Ford Woodies either. Any idea which movie that is clip is from. Looks like a great screwball comedy! _________________ 1934 Auburn 652Y Four-Door Sedan

It will on TCM on February 12th. I am going to DVR it. Supposed to be one of the funniest movies of the golden era, was nominated for four or five Oscars. _________________ 1934 Auburn 652Y Four-Door Sedan

We're still trying to pin down the exact identity of the car. It's been suggested that it's J-560, Clark Gable's car, before Bohman & Schwartz modifications; but I was under the impression that the car was delivered to B&S "in-the-white," NOT FINISHED by Rollston. Also, Gable's car in the period was cream with normal Duesy headlights, and he didn't sell it until after Carole Lombard died in 1942, so that it wouldn't have modified into this form by 1938.
The car does, however, have the Gable car's double rear spares.
Several other features do not match up with the Nethercutt Collection's J-533 (running boards, windshield frame).
Perhaps Randy Ema or someone else can clear this up. _________________ Chris Summers

A list of "Duesenberg Cars in the Movies" in my files lists "Merrily We Go Along" as having "Duesenberg Model J--(Gable's Car)."
Doesn't match up with the facts as I (thought I) knew them but...hmm... _________________ Chris Summers

There's a still photo from "Merrily We Live" in the book "Fit for the Chase: Cars and the Movies" by Raymond Lee. The photo shows Contance Bennett, Jimmy Stewart and a front view of the Duesenberg.
The book has a lot of cool photos in it, but the cars aren't always identified correctly. Inside, there's also a rarely seen photo taken from the driver's side of the Duesenberg attributed to Frank Morgan.
I'm also surprised no one has mentioned the other Duesenberg in the "Merrily We Live" video clip. In the brief moment it's visible, it looks like a Murphy convertible coupe with skirted fenders.

Hi all,
I watched the clip and was amazed to see the horrible way in which that car was treated - the grinding gears and then the crash - I'd be livid if I were Clark Gable.
Also, why does that car sound so horrible when it runs - I've heard many Duesenberg engines running, they should be whisper quiet - NONE have sounded so horrible, was the car built with special muffler baffles for that throaty sound?
I also noticed that if you pause that clip at 1:20 - you can see another Duesenberg roadster parked along the road - I'm not sure which car it is but it looks like a Rollston bodied disappearing top roadster, possibly a '34?
Maybe Rangy can comment on this.
Thanks,
